When to Schedule Your Child’s First Checkup
Dr Chen recommends scheduling your child’s first dental checkup by the time they’re three or four years old.
These early visits help establish familiarity with the dental office to prevent anxiety and get ahead of any potential concerns in the future. For instance, as your child’s adult teeth begin to erupt around age six or seven, Dr Chen can intervene before complications (such as impacted teeth or crowding) arise.
Depending on your child’s age and comfort level, checkups include an exam and clean, any necessary X-rays, as well as fissure sealants when necessary.
If your child has any areas of active decay, Dr Chen will create a care plan to treat the cavities early, before they have the opportunity to spread into adjacent tooth structures.
